With a view to giving a special emphasis on the health of women and children and address the problem of malnourishment, the Mansa district administration is observing Nutrition Fortnight (Poshan Pakhwada) under Har Ghar Poshan Teohar, which kicked off on Friday and would culminate on March 22.
The district-level events were kick-started from the Anganwari Centre at Makhewala village coinciding with International Women’s Day today. Presiding over the function, ADC (D) Gurmeet Singh Sidhu said the woman of the family should have the best of health as she has to run the entire family and take care of everyone.
He called upon women to have a balanced diet, especially during pregnancy and when she is nursing a child. He said it was not mandatory that an expensive food would be nutritious. Rather nutrition is best derived from local and seasonal fruits and vegetables available. The emphasis should be laid on having small portions of all kinds of foods. During the nutrition fortnight, expecting mothers and other women would be sensitised to ways to ensure a balanced diet for themselves.
